Every day I spend here working for the Kingdom of God, I realise the great
need there is in the world. What these young people search for is love, the
love that they can only experience with Christ. Some days, this realisation
becomes a huge load for me, but I always try and remember that the Lord put
me in this place to do something for him. I won’t lie to you; the work here is
not simple, but it’s always rewarding to see how hearts are being transformed
little by little, day-by- day.
Spain holds some bitterness against the church, because during the rule of
Franco, in order to receive food they were obliged to go to church. When
Franco died 41 years ago, people didn’t want anything to do with the church
and of course the love of God wasn’t taught to their children either.
Spain has a generation of young people without any knowledge of God or the
Bible. I tell you this so that you understand how difficult it is to talk about God
in an environment like Spain, and how excited we get when we see small
changes in the students.
I want to share a bit of the story of three girls who currently form part of the En
Vivo community. They’re Raquel, Sofia and Paula.
Raquel is a girl with an enormous heart and who really wants to know God,
but has a thousand doubts about it all.
Raquel standing to the left, Sofia below with glasses, Paula’s the blonde, | and | the redhead with a yellow scarf is Noemi, part of the staff, and then there’s me |
there’s ‘something more’. She comes for the talks at En Vivo on Tuesdays,
when we always talk about God.
Paula, she’s a bit more difficult to read. However she has let me know that En
Vivo has made her think a lot about God and about her future.
These are small victories, and I hope that they start becoming more frequent.
This month we had a camp called “Camp of the genders” where sex was
spoken about directly. We had an excellent speaker, who spoke about sex
and the Bible, which surprised lots of people who didn’t know they could find
information about sex in the Bible.
They were a really fun few days filled with much blessing.
Help me to pray.
I ask you that you pray for these girls, that they (and more students) would
continue to take more of an interest in God.
There is a great need for an attractive church for these young people, we
consider that En Vivo ought to be a bridge into church, but there are very few
evangelical churches in Salamanca which makes that job rather difficult. We
have a couple of missionaries thinking about coming and starting a church,
and this gives us a lot of hope.
Thank you so much for all your support and encouragement that you have
given me throughout all this time, and if you want to support me even more,
here are a few ways.
One of the ways you can help is by offering to support me, by clicking on the
following link: DONATE. A page will appear like this one, there’s a bit about
my story and a button which says “Give”. This is the page where you can
decide in which way you want to help me, whether it be monthly, or a one-off
donation (for this way of giving you need to use your credit card).
